The Rasmus is a Finnish rock band formed in 1994 in Helsinki, while its members were still in upper comprehensive school. The original lineup included Lauri Ylönen (founder, frontman, and lead singer-songwriter), Eero Heinonen (bass), Pauli Rantasalmi (guitar), and Jarno Lahti (drums). Lahti left the band in 1995 and was replaced by Janne Heiskanen. Heiskanen departed in 1999, with Aki Hakala stepping in as the drummer. In 2022, Pauli Rantasalmi left the band and was replaced by guitarist Emilia "Emppu" Suhonen.
The Rasmus gained international fame with their 2003 hit single "In the Shadows," which helped them sell over 5 million albums worldwide, including 350,000 in Finland alone. The band has won multiple awards, both domestically and internationally, solidifying their place in rock music. In 2022, The Rasmus represented Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest with their song "Jezebel."
